A Visitation for Sheila Jean "Bonnie" Johnston will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Following the visitation, the family will honor her wish for cremation.

A Memorial Service for Sheila Jean "Bonnie" Johnston will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege with Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating.   An Inurnment will follow at the Industry Cemetery in rural Atlanta, Nebraska.

Sheila Jean "Bonnie" Johnston, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Bonnie was born February 26, 1942, in Hastings, Nebraska, the eldest of three children, to Robert and Alice (Scism) Bonner and received her primary education from Goodland, Kansas Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1960.

Following her education, she began working at Holdrege Memorial Homes then Holdrege Public Schools in Dietary.  On March 30, 1963, she was united in marriage to Lyle H. Johnston in Alma, Nebraska and this union was blessed with three children:   Debra, Marc, and Robert. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Bonnie tended to her family.  In 2000, the couple made their home in Kearney.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debra Sue in infancy; her husband, Lyle; one brother, Robert Bonner, Jr.; an aunt, Jean Bonner; four sisters-in-law:  Lois Martin, Jean Ann Jakob, Faye Maaske and Glenna Johnston; and a brother-in-law, Neil Johnston.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her two sons:  Marc Johnston of Holdrege; and Robert Johnston and his wife, Tori of Holdrege; step-son, Kerry Peters and his wife, Debra of North Platte, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Josh Johnston and his significant other, Cheyenne Brittni of Holdrege; Mikell Johnston of Kearney; Blake Johnston and his fiancée, Riquelle of Holdrege; Stephan Johnston of Kearney; Dallen Johnston of Holdrege; Anastazia Hickman and her husband, Boomer of Oxford; Caleb Johnston and his significant other, Jailyn Scheel of Holdrege; and Tyler Johnston and his wife, Jenica of Omaha; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Greg Bonner of Kearney; two sisters-in-law, Mary Bonner of Hastings, Nebraska; and Marti Bonner of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law, Raye Johnston and his wife, Betty of Loomis, Nebraska; and Darrel Maaske and his wife, Jan of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Bonnie's honor, and kindly suggested to the family.
