Memorial Services for Shelly R. McGee will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church in rural Smithfield, Nebraska on Friday, September 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating.
Shelly Rae McGee, 52 years of age, of Kearney, Nebraska, (formerly of Bertrand, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at her home in Kearney following a courageous battle with cancer. Shelly was born July 10, 1954 at Grand Island, Nebraska, the only child of Raymond and Lillie (Steinke) Pierce. Shelly received her education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with honors with the class of 1972.
On June 30, 1973 she was united in marriage to Arlan E. McGee at Hope Lutheran Church near Bertrand and to this union two children were born: Brock and Brooke. The family made their home on the family farm three miles east of Bertrand, where the couple engaged in farming. Shelly was actively involved in the farm working side-by-side with Arlan and also keeping the books. First and foremost in her life were her children and she loved being involved with their school and outside activities.
Shelly also did outside bookkeeping for several years prior to her employment at the Bank of Bertrand. She loved gardening, landscaping, scrap-booking, cooking, baking, had a special place in her heart for all animals and was a loyal Husker fan.
She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, volunteered countless hours to her children's activities and numerous organizations and treasured the friendship bonds formed with many people through the years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Arlan of Kearney; mother, Lillie Pierce of Kearney; son, Brock McGee and his wife, Jennifer of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Brooke McGee of Kearney; father-in-law, Delmar McGee of Bertrand; brother-in-law, Dallas McGee of Lincoln; sisters-in-law: Charlene Land and her husband, Bob of Bertrand and Cherrise Meier and her husband, Monte of North Platte, Nebraska; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Pierce and mother-in-law, Neomia McGee.
Memorial Book Signing will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand, Nebraska from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
