Sherry Damrow

Celebration of Life Services for Sherry A. (Karlson) Damrow will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, following the services.

Sherry Adele (Karlson) Damrow, 65 years of age of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sherry was born on September 24, 1952 in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, the eldest of three children born to Burton and Berdeen (Friedline) Karlson.  She received her primary education from Axtell Public School through the eighth grade and then from Holdrege Public Schools, where she graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1970.

On June 30, 1973, she was united in marriage to Dennis R. Damrow at the Bethel Lutheran Church and to this union two children were born:  Lynse and Barton.  The family made their home in Holdrege.  Sherry went on to further her education at Kearney State College, where she graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Education, with emphasis on Special Education.  Sherry began her teaching in Holdrege.  Throughout the years of her career in education, she had a special way of creating a bond with her challenged students that lasted for years beyond their school years.

Anyone who knew Sherry well, can relate to her love for fashion, which was a perfect fit for ten years as she owned and operated a clothing store in Holdrege, she named, Details.  She loved the connection with her customers, and employees during her years in retail.  Later in years, the couple relocated to Gothenburg, Nebraska, where Sherry returned to Special Education in the Gothenburg Public School System until her retirement.  After being diagnosed with her health concerns, Sherry and Dennis returned to Holdrege to be near family.

Family was very important in her life; especially cherished the time spent with her grandsons, who were the center of her world.  She also loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.

Sherry was preceded in death by: her son, Barton Damrow; her father, Burton Karlson; one nephew, Jason Wagner; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Don and June Damrow; and brothers-in-law: Dick Damrow and Marty Damrow.

Sherry leaves to celebrate her life; the love of her life, Dennis Damrow of Holdrege; her daughter, Lynse Schmidt and her husband, Tim of rural Holdrege; three grandsons: Austin, Cael, and Kaden Schmidt; her mother, Berdeen Karlson of Holdrege; sister, Brenda Wagner and her husband, Mark of Woodbury, Minnesota; brother, Dudley Karlson and his wife, Linda of Holdrege; sisters-in-law: Linda Slothower and her husband, Gordon of Springdale, Arkansas; Jodi Damrow of Holdrege; and Mary Jen Bear of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Sherry's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
