Shirlee Annette (York) Poyser, 60 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. Shirlee was born in Holdrege, Nebraska, on February 2, 1966, the fourth of five children, born to R. Douglas and Janice (Broeker) York. She received her primary education from Mascot Public School, where she was taught by her grandmother, Elizabeth York. In sixth grade, she transitioned to Oxford Public School and graduated with the class of 1984. She pursued higher education and received an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science from Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska.

On June 21, 1986, Shirlee was united in marriage to Craig Poyser at the United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska, and to this union two children were born: Kalyn and Ross. The couple made their home in Orleans from 1986 to 1999, when the family moved to Alma. Shirlee worked at Hays Pharmacy and then for the Lower Republican NRD as an Administrative Assistant for 33 years.

Shirlee was a dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Church in Alma, where she grew and matured in her faith.  She found great joy sharing that faith as she encouraged many others.

She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved traveling, shopping and watching volleyball and basketball. She enjoyed her years serving with Team Mates as a mentor and as chapter treasurer. Shirlee especially enjoyed spending time taking in the beauty and tranquility of her childhood home near Oxford.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her father, Douglas York; her step-father, Darrel Maaske; one brother in infancy, Todd York; one brother-in-law, Randy Kuck; her father and mother-in-law, Keith and Dolores Poyser; and her foreign exchange "brother", Glenn Browning.

Shirlee is survived by her husband, Craig Poyser of Alma; two children: Kalyn Weers and her husband, Richard of Lincoln; Ross Poyser and his wife, Jessetta of Republican City; grandchildren: Kaden and Kaleb Weers; Boyd Poyser; her mom, Janice Maaske of Kearney; sisters: Shari Kuck of Bertrand and her special friend, Dave Wohlgemuth; Sheila Svoboda and her husband, Scott of Atlantic, Iowa; and Sandra Dannehl and her husband, Calvin of Bertrand; sisters-in-law: Keanna Leonard and her husband, Dennis of Grand Island, Nebraska; and Deb Miller and her husband, Barry of Hays, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
