Funeral services for Shirley M. Boehmer will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple officiating.  Interment will follow at the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk.

Shirley Marie Boehmer, 85 years of age, of Funk, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.  Shirley was born July 25, 1934, on the family farm in Richardson County, near Dawson, Nebraska, the eldest of two children to John and E. Marie (Utermohlen) Clark. She received her primary education from Mt. Hope Country School and later Dawson High School.

In 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to Ross Kerl and to this union four children were born:  Marcia, Joyce, Terry, and Beth. The family made their home on a farm in rural Pawnee County, Nebraska.  This marriage later ended in divorce.

On October 27, 1961, Shirley was united in marriage to Henry L. Boehmer, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple made their home in Funk and to this union, one daughter, Lesa was born.  The family enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and spending time outdoors.

Shirley worked as a caretaker/housekeeper for the Funk School from 1966 to 1970 and later, Becton-Dickinson from 1970 to 1985.  She enjoyed the many friendships made throughout the years.  On August 23, 2003, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry.  Shirley also had a special relationship with Gerald Reed, who died June 13, 2014.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and being active in the Women's Circle at Fridhem Lutheran Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by: her parents, and her husband, Henry.

Shirley leaves to celebrate her life; five children: Lesa (Boehmer) Johnson and her husband, Bob McGrath of Lincoln, Nebraska; Marcia Hunzeker and her husband, Russell of Houston, Texas; Joyce Kubicek and her husband, Stan of Lincoln, Nebraska; Terry Kerl and his wife, Deb of Pawnee City, Nebraska; and Beth Magnuson and her husband, Dale of Spencer, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Reed Clark and his wife, Sue of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Roseann Wolf of McCook, Nebraska; two nieces; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 21, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Shirley's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
