A Memorial Service for Shirley Burgeson will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastors Brad Perry and Murray Jones, officiating.
A Private Family Interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege.
Shirley Francine Burgeson, 87 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Shirley was born on June 12, 1936, at Arapahoe, Nebraska, the second of three children, born to Francis W. "Bull" and Elsie J. (Hoyle) Tate. She received her education from Arapahoe Public Schools and then graduated with the class of 1954.
On June 10, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Roger Burgeson in Arapahoe and they were blessed with three children: Rhonda, Jeff, and Brent. Her family was most important to her and she enjoyed taking care of them.
She was a member of the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Holdrege, where she served in many roles, enjoyed Bible studies, and lived her life to love the Lord. She loved to entertain family and friends, and enjoyed having coffee with her friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Barbara Sander and husband, Bill; brother-in-law, John Burgeson and wife, JoAnne; and sister-in-law, Dee Hock and husband, Dean.
Shirley leaves to celebrate her life, her three children: Rhonda Rietema and husband, Dave of Thornton, Colorado; Jeff Burgeson of Holdrege; and Brent Burgeson of Holdrege; four grandchildren: Luke Rietema of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Tate Reitema of Thornton; Britani Brown and husband, Eric of Holdrege; and Jalen Burgeson of Franklin, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren: Haizel and Eloise Brown; her brother, Craig Tate and wife, Anita of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
There will not be a visitation or viewing.
A memorial has been established in Shirley's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for future designation.
