A funeral service for Shirley "Anne" Lippstreu will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Huntley Methodist Church in Huntley, Nebraska with Pastor Jean Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery.
Shirley "Anne" (Knight) Lippstreu, 95 years of age, of Huntley, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. She was born on March 8, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Thomas and Cecile (Potter) Knight. She received her education in Omaha and graduated from Benson High School. While attending Hastings College, she met the man of her dreams, Arlo Lippstreu, and they were married on May 22, 1948.
As a youngster, Anne enjoyed camping trips with her family. Marrying a farmer and moving into a house with no electricity, no indoor bathroom, and with a woodburning heat stove was like camping year round! This was the norm in rural Nebraska in the 1950's.
Arlo and Anne had five children and farmed in the Huntley-Ragan area. They were the first to own a John Deere tractor in Harlan County. They had beef and milk cows on the pasture land. They planted and harvested corn, milo, wheat, and soybeans. The kids helped load and stack lots of alfalfa bales.
Anne was a gifted pianist. She taught lessons to many area children and was the pianist and organist for the Huntley church for 70 years. She researched and planned for the building of their new farmhouse and the church Fellowship Hall. She was a master at managing the farm records. She was also a skilled seamstress and gardener.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; her parents, her in-laws: Walter and Mary (Lienemann) Lippstreu; sister, Susan and her husband, Lloyd Sherman; and a toddler daughter, Peggy Anne Lippstreu.
She is survived by children: Karen Lukas and her husband, Chuck of Hershey, Nebraska; Sandra Clark of North Platte, Nebraska; Dixie Fisher and her husband, Mark of Cary, North Carolina; and Terry Lippstreu and his wife, Marsha of Sikeston, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Nathan, Rachel, Christina, Wendy, Tamra, Patrick, and Jessica; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Dale Knight of Omaha; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Anne's honor, and kindly suggested to: ABC Pregnancy Help Center, 110 West C Street, McCook, NE 69001; Gideon's International; or the Huntley Methodist Church.
