Graveside Services for Shirley A. Muirhead will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oberlin Cemetery at Oberlin, Kansas, with Reverend Jim Bendorf officiating.
Shirley Ann Muirhead, 83 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at her home in Alma, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Shirley was born on January 5, 1935 in Decatur County, Kansas, on the family place, the younger of two children born to Richard "Herb" and Bertha (Peters) Ufford. She received her education in Oberlin, attending the first seven years in a one-room schoolhouse near the family homestead.
On February 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Allen Muirhead in Oberlin and to this union three children were born: Kip, Kim, and Allen.
Shirley was a homemaker and wore many hats. She loved her job with the Corps of Engineers at the Harlan County Lake at Republican City, Nebraska. After her retirement, LeRoy and Shirley worked several years in maintenance at the lake at Methodist campground. During the winter months, they were snowbirds in Texas.
Shirley enjoyed many activities and spending time with grand kids and showing them about the outdoors and wild life. She could name every bird and animal. She was also an accomplished artist in many fields. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, and KU basketball, but would watch racing of any kind. (She did not like Kyle Busch.) Shirley loved motorcycles and motorcycle racing. She rode motorcycles and still had a current motorcycle license. She loved her jewelry, and was an avid collector of Hull and Roseville Pottery.
Besides her parents; and husband, LeRoy; she was preceded in death by: her son, Kip; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Shirley leaves to celebrate her life: daughter, Kim and Ron of Virginia; son, Allen and Traci of Alma; daughter in-law, Jun and Ron of Michigan; brother, Calvin Ufford of Oberlin; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and close friends.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
