Shirley Marie Sell, 58 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. Shirley was born July 10, 1956 at Norton, Kansas, the fourth of five children born to William E. and Della Mae (Romjue) Sell. She was baptized in a country church near Woodruff, Kansas. Shirley received her primary education at Long Island, Kansas through the fifth grade and then attended the Orleans Public School in Orleans, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1974.
The family made their home on a farm in Harlan County, Nebraska, just north of Long Island. It was on this farm, where Shirley loved being cared for by her mother, Della. In January of 1983, Shirley moved with her parents to Holdrege, where she enjoyed the time spent with her grandmother, Nina. In 1996, Shirley began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community, where she received loving care and made many friendship bonds during the next 18 years of her life. On this past Friday, Shirley was born again by the grace of God, freed from all of her physical inabilities and experienced the incredible Peace of Heaven.
Shirley was talented at creating latch hook rugs and pillows, loved playing board games, especially Skip Bo with her parents and enjoyed playing Bingo at Christian Homes. Shirley enjoyed attending church for many years at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege with her parents and later in years she enjoyed Chapel at the home.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her father, Bill Sell of Holdrege; two brothers: Kenneth Sell and his wife, Kathy of Kearney, Nebraska and Duane Sell and his wife, Janet of Long Island, Kansas; one sister, Sharon Powers and her husband, Chuck of Arapahoe, Nebraska; eight nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; special aunt, Evelyn Russell of Holdrege and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, infant brother, Oliver Ernest Sell, and a special uncle, James "Jim" Russell.
