He received his education from Holbrook Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1948.

On December 23, 1949, Sid was inducted into the United States Army at Camp Carson, Colorado, and received his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas.  He served during the Korean War and on December 17, 1952, he was honorably discharged.

Together the family enjoyed playing games, watching old movies, and enjoyed Sunday meals after church.

Sid enjoyed cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers Football team and watching baseball with his family on Sunday afternoons.  He enjoyed volunteering and helping his grandsons after school with homework and with the Boy Scouts.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and attended Bible Studies.  Sid also attended the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege with his wife.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rose Hammond; and many siblings and their spouses.
