Sidney "Byron" Spence

Funeral Services for Sidney "Byron" Spence will be conducted from the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church north of Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Todd Marcy, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Sidney "Byron" Spence, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2007 at his home in Holdrege. Byron was born December 31, 1921 at Kearney, Nebraska, the eldest of four sons of Sidney and Hazel (Thulin) Spence.

He received his education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School and was a lifetime resident of Phelps County. He retired from Kronquist Implement after many years of service. He farmed part-time north of Holdrege until his death.

Byron was a life long member of Holcomb Evangelical Church north of Holdrege, where he was active through the years singing in the choir. Byron was truly a remarkable man and devoted Christian. He was deeply loved and will be missed very much by his family and friends.

He leaves to mourn his passing his brother, John Spence and his wife, Ardyce of West Suffield, CT; sister-in-law, Donna Spence of Sun City, California; and a host of nieces and nephews: Monica, Melanie, Robert, Moira, Scott, Deborah, Melissa and Lori and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Richard Spence and Robert Spence and his wife, Elaine and a niece, Linda.

Mr. Spence will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
