A Private Family Memorial Graveside Service for Spencer L. Lonn will be conducted from the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska at a later date.
Spencer L. Lonn, 66 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege. He was born November 10, 1939 on the family farm north of Alma in Harlan County, Nebraska, the second of five children of Roy and Almeda (Covey) Lonn. On March 24, 1940 he was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Oxford. Spencer received his education from Omaha, Oxford and Arapahoe schools and graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1958. Following his education, Spencer enlisted into the United States Army on February 13, 1959 and served his country until his honorable discharge on April 9, 1962.
On June 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Haller in Heartwell, Nebraska and the couple was blessed with one adopted daughter, Tena Louise. The family made their home in Funk, Nebraska, where Spencer was employed at the Farmers Coop and later was employed at Artistic Woven Labels in Holdrege until his retirement due to his failing health.
He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, playing cards and riding his motorcycle. Spencer enjoyed many friendship bonds formed being a member of ABATE through the years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 66 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles both of Holdrege.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Tena Ackley and her husband, Harold "Bud" of Ravenna, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Elizabeth, Colby, Dakota and Quenton Ackley; four sisters: Iola Anderson and her husband, Jesse of Funk, Nebraska, Daphna Stagemeyer and her husband, Paul of Arapahoe, Nebraska, Vivian McDorman and her husband, Charles of Funk and Patty Baumann and her husband, Don of Denver, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and a nephew, Jason Stroup.
There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established in his memory.
