Funeral Services for Stanley C. Sunblade, Sr. will be conducted from the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church of rural Loomis, Nebraska on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Craig Roberts, officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team.

Stanley Charles Sunblade Sr., 76 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at his home in Lincoln. Stan was born September 13, 1932 on the family farm in Phelps County near Loomis, the youngest of two sons of Carl and Rose (Olson) Sunblade. He received his education at Loomis, graduating from Loomis High School with the class of 1950. Following his graduation, he went to work at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings, Nebraska. On January 14, 1953 he was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on December 2, 1954 at which time he returned to the ammunition depot in Hastings.

On May 26, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lily Anne Hansen and to this union six children were born: Steven, Michael, Stanley Jr., Mitchell, Lenny and Michele. Stanley and Lily moved to Loomis in 1956, where Stan was employed by the Loomis CO-OP as a tank wagon driver. In 1957 they moved to Holdrege, where he worked for Chris Lien Construction for a year before he started at Kingsley Lumber Company, where he drove a concrete truck for nine years. In 1961, the family returned to Loomis. Stan worked for Byron Nelson Construction from 1967 until 1973 and then Dean Anderson Construction from 1973 to 1977 at which time he returned to Kingsley Lumber/Advantage Building Supply to finish out his career. Stan retired in June of 1998.

Following his retirement, Stan moved to Lincoln in December of 1999 and resided at LEW Apartments, where he made many friendship bonds. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #00131 and American Legion Post #0003 both of Lincoln.

He leaves to mourn his passing his five sons: Steven Sunblade and his wife, Nora of Chicago, IL, Michael Sunblade and his wife, Caron of Holdrege, Stanley Sunblade Jr. and his wife, Keren of Greenwood, Nebraska, Mitchell Sunblade and his wife, Barb of Lincoln, Lenny Sunblade and his wife, Deb of Orleans, Nebraska; one daughter, Michele Crom and her husband, Tony of Lincoln; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Byron.

Stan will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, March 20, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
