Stephen Michael Bachman, 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Azria Health in Blue Hill, Nebraska. Stephen was born December 29, 1949, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Dean and Dorothy Bachman. He lived most of his life in Nebraska and graduated from Holdrege High School in 1968.
After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army; his specialty was Telecommunications and Military Police. Steve was a Military Policeman in Vietnam and Korea, making him a Vietnam Veteran. After he came back from Vietnam, he was stationed in Hawaii; then to Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he met his wife; next to Georgia; and lastly to Japan. Steve was honorably discharged as an E5, from Fort Riley, Kansas. He served for a total of six years with the United States Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in Korea, the Good Conduct Medal, twice, the Expert Medal for M-16 Rifle, and the Expert Medal for M-14 Rifle.
Following his discharge, he began to make his home in Utah, where he worked as a deputy for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, and as a security guard for Burns Security. Steve also worked for his father's irrigation company, Pipeco, hauling pipe to various places. For a while, he had a part-time job with the West Jordan Police Department; and his last job in Utah, was working for Snap-on Tools. He moved back to Holdrege, and becoming a Lineman for the city. He worked for the City of Holdrege for many years and also ran the Eagles Club for a year, before he moved to Washington State with his family. He lived in Washington, for many years then moved his family back to Nebraska in 1993. He worked various jobs and his last job was with Pizza Hut in Holdrege, as a delivery driver. He really enjoyed his time with all those he worked with at Pizza Hut; they too were his family. Most of the little ones in Holdrege called him Santa during the Christmas Season because of his grayish-white hair and beard!
Stephen married Josephine Trivisone from Port Jervis, New Jersey, and they legally separated in 1985. Stephen had six children with Josephine, which he raised on his own: Stephanie Michelle, (which she got her name from his time in military and they called out Stephanie Michelle, instead of Stephen Michael during roll call), Stephen Michael, Jr., Patrick Dean, Tanya Marie, Sonya Lynn, and Scott Ryan.
Stephen was a huge Husker Football Fan, and San Francisco 49ers fan, during the Joe Montana quarterback era. Stephen also enjoyed hunting, Husker Game days, and playing Yahtzee, cards, and bingo, with his mother and sisters, Patty and Waunita; and with his father when he would come down to visit. Stephen enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and Fourth of July's with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dean and wife, Juanita Bachman; his mother, Dorothy Leona Bachman; one sister, Patricia Ring; and three brothers: Gary Bachman, Gerald Bachman, and James Watson.
Stephen is survived by: his three sisters: Waunita Watson of Holdrege; Kristen LeClair and husband, Francis of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Gloria Jean Bachman of Huntington, West Virginia; one brother, Dean Bachman, Jr. and his wife, Candy of Salt Lake City, Utah; his children: Stephanie O'Neil and husband, Jerry of Talco, Texas; Stephen Bachman, Jr. of Kearney Nebraska; Patrick Bachman and husband, Ryan of Kearney; Tanya Spencer and husband, Brooke of Kearney; Sonya Bachman of Kearney; and his Veteran son, Scott Bachman of Overton, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: (Stephanie's) Ashley & Vanessa, (Tanya's) John, Zackery, and Katelin, (Sonya's) Michael and Emily, and (Scott's) Parker; two aunts: Elta Kern of Minden, Nebraska; and Delores Leach of Chappell, Nebraska; along withmany nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial has been established in Steve's honor and kindly suggested to the family.
