A Celebration of Life Service for Stephen R. Senter will be held at a later date.  Per Stephen's request, there will be no funeral service, but in true Stephen fashion, his cremated remains will be added to a firework to be shot off during the celebration.

Stephen Richert "Steve" Senter, 71 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege.  Steve was born May 29, 1949, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Val and Elaine Senter. Steve grew up in Denver, Colorado, and attended Colorado State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History.

Steve was a delightfully quirky guy who relished being the only person wearing CSU green, in a sea of Husker red in Holdrege, where he lived for over 30 years.  He served as the City of Holdrege's Landfill Manger for 25 years.

Steve was a Renaissance man with a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He was a massive sports fan who seldom missed a Rams, Broncos, Avalanche, or Rockies game. Steve was also a 4 th of July enthusiast, gourmet cook, voracious reader, determined fisherman, gifted bike rider and downhill skier, kite flier, and an eclectic music collector.  He also loved showing off pictures of his kids and grandkids to anyone who would listen.

Steve's passion though was wildlife photography. He had an incredible gift of capturing the beauty of nature on film; in particular, the Sandhill Cranes during their annual migration stop at the Rowe Sanctuary on the Platte River. His wonderful and rare way of looking at the world will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Val and Elaine Senter. He is survived by:  a daughter, Breeann Anderson (Jeff); and a son, Benjamin Senter (Margaret Aylward); two grandchildren:  Elaine and Max Anderson; three sisters:  Susan Lingle (Jim); Stacey Simpson (Bob); and Shelley Senter (Marcello Cristo); along with many nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted son; father; brother; uncle; and amazing friend.

The family would like to thank the staff at Christian Homes Care Community and RuralMed Hospice, both of Holdrege for their tremendous care for Steve.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to: the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary.  This organization is dedicated to protecting the Cranes that Steve loved so dearly.  Donations can be made at https://rowe.audubon.org/

The family is honoring Steve's wish for cremation.  There will be no visitation or memorial book signing.
