A Memorial Service for Steven R. Johnson will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.

Interment will be held prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. at the St. John's Cemetery in Wilcox, Nebraska.

Steven Ray Johnson, 65 years of age, of Wilcox, passed away, on July 3, 2022, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Steven was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on May 3, 1957, the younger of two children, born to Lester and Marfay (Schubert) Johnson. Steven was baptized on June 10, 1957, in Holdrege by Reverend E. Kaufeld and confirmed on April 4, 1971, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox by Pastor V. W. Brack.  He received his education and graduated from Wilcox Public School with the class of 1975.

In 1978, Steven and his father formed C. O. & S. Inc., and farmed, drove truck, and worked together for many years.  In 2002, Jeffrey began working and driving truck with his father and grandfather.

On January 6, 1979, Steven was united in marriage to Gail Samuelson at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and to this union three children were born: Jeremiah, Jeffrey, and Jennifer. The couple made their home in Wilcox.  Together they enjoyed farming, raising cattle, working on numerous projects around the farm, and playing Pinochle.

Steven enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors, tractor drives, and anything Oliver!  He was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder for many years and enjoyed his small group Bible Study.

Steven will be remembered for sharing the word of the Lord through his cross necklaces with anyone he came in contact with.  He was an example to live by.

Steven was a member of the Wilcox Lion's Club for many years and enjoyed helping with the Wilcox Demo Derby and was an officer and supporter of the FFA.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar A. and Alvera Johnson and William and Clara Schubert, his father, Lester C.O. Johnson, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, E.L. and Bonnie Samuelson.

Steven is survived by his wife, Gail Johnson of Wilcox; three children: Jeremiah Johnson and his wife, Heather of Wilcox; Jeffrey Johnson and his wife, Shaina of Wilcox; and Jennifer Beemer and her husband, Geoffrey of Imperial, Nebraska; his mother, Marfay Johnson of Holdrege; eight grandchildren:  Chase and Makayla Johnson, Micah, Allegra, and Faith Johnson, and Avery, Emerson, and Grayson Beemer; one brother, Richard Johnson and his wife, Connie of Ogallala, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Avis Nelson and her husband, Marvin of Loomis; three brothers-in-law: Lyle Samuelson of Loomis; Gary Samuelson of Atlanta, Nebraska; and Kent Samuelson and his wife, Diane of Holdrege; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Steven's honor, and kindly suggested to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or to the family for later designation.
