A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Steven R. Rentzell will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska, with Pastor Jeff Goetzinger officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Alma Cemetery, Alma.
Steven Ray "Steve" Rentzell, 59 years of age, of Tempe, Arizona, formerly of Alma, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at his home. Steve was born in Osmond, Nebraska, on October 3, 1966, the middle of three children, born to Richard R. "Dick" and Janet A. (Lowe) Rentzell. He received his education from Alma Public School, graduating with the class of 1985. He pursued higher education from: Kearney State College, the University of Phoenix and then Grand Canyon University, in Arizona.
Following is education, Steve began working at the Grand Canyon University Financial Aid Office. In his free time, he enjoyed being a referee for Junior High students, as well as coaching youth sports leagues. Steve was a member the Arizonans for Nebraska for many years. He enjoyed many activities, including many annual softball tournaments.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Janet Rentzell; and grandparents: Les and Dorothy Lowe; and Crystal and Bert Kenzie; aunts and uncles: William "Bill" Lowe; Katherine (Rentzell) Theirolf and Marcelian Rentzell; Raymond Rentzell and Duane Rentzell; and a beloved god-daughter, Emily Burkert-Rocha.
Steve is survived by his sisters: Sharon Rentzell of Hastings, Nebraska; and Susan Rentzell of Alma; an aunt, Gail Lowe of Lincoln, Nebraska; many cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
A Memorial Book Signing will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church.
Memorials honoring Steve can be made to the family.
