Stuart Lee Swanson, 65 years of age, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 as a result of injuries from a motorcycle accident near Westwood, Iowa. Stuart was born on March 15, 1954, at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax, Virginia, the eldest of two sons born to Donald Lee and Verna (Turner) Swanson. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, and attended Holdrege High School with the class of 1972.
In 1974, he was united in marriage to Carla Wycoff and to this union one daughter, Inga was born. The family made their home at Mascot, Nebraska, until moving to Loomis, Nebraska in 1991. Throughout the years, Stuart sold machinery with his father, Don out of high school. He then began a long career in the trucking industry. Stuart drove truck for Dan McLaughlin Trucking Company in Mediapolis, Iowa, until his retirement this past May.
Stuart was as "Old School" as they come. His strong, tight and firm handshake will be remembered by all friends and family; and he was the type of person who always told you how it was no matter what! He had a keen sense of humor. His love of riding motorcycles, turned into a passion for helping others as he was active supporting those in need. Whether it was someone with cancer, or a veteran that needed assistance, he loved being involved in several motorcycle run fundraisers. Even though very humble about his artistic ability, his work was remarkable!
Stuart always enjoyed family gatherings, reminiscing about the "Good Old Days", and especially loved the time he got to spend with his grandson, Payne.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mark; and several aunts and uncles on both sides of the family.
Stuart leaves to celebrate his life; his significant other, Karen Smith of Mt. Pleasant; his daughter, Inga Swanson of Holdrege; grandson, Payne Luebbe of Holdrege; his aunts: Margaret Hodge; Norma Hock; Rose Ann Swanson; and Mary Louise Lilyhorn all of Holdrege; and a host of special cousins; two nephews; other relatives and many friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring his wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Stuart's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com
