Due to the impending inclement weather, the Memorial Service for Stuart "Roy" Weatherwax has been rescheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Christian Church in Edison, Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einsphar officiating.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Stuart "Roy' Weatherwax, 67 years of age, of the Kenesaw, Nebraska and Hastings, Nebraska areas, formerly of Edison, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings. Roy was born April 10, 1950 in Holdrege, Nebraska, the third of six children, born to Irvin and Leora Mae (Gibson) Weatherwax. He grew up on the family farm south and east of Edison. Roy was baptized at the Christian Church and received his education from Oxford Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1968. During high school, Roy worked for the Edison Filling Station.
On September 4, 1971, Roy was united in marriage to Kathrine A. Cowan at the United Methodist Church in Oxford and to this union three children were born: David, Sarah and Emily. The family made their home in Edison, where Roy worked at the Hay Mill for several years and later, hauled milk for the Oxford Cheese Factory. During this time he also, owned and operated Weatherwax Sand and Gravel, near Edison.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and eating his favorite food, popcorn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sarah Ann Weatherwax; a granddaughter, Macy Weatherwax; and a brother, Ricke Weatherwax.
Survivors include: his children: David Weatherwax and his wife, Tricia of Oxford and Emily Weatherwax of Holdrege; four grandchildren: A.J., Tate and Ellie Weatherwax and Zoe Gaghagen; four brothers: Phillip "Lee" Weatherwax and his wife, Monica of Kearney, Nebraska, Roger Weatherwax and his wife, Alice of Anselmo, Nebraska, Rex Weatherwax and his wife, Sherise of Oxford and Gregg Weatherwax of Hastings; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
There will be no visitation or memorial book signing. The family is honoring Roy's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Roy's honor and kindly suggested to the Christian Church in Edison, the Edison Cemetery or the Oxford Gun Club.
