Susan Lynn (Dunn) Ashley, 69 years of age, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Cambridge Court Assisted Living in Kearney, Nebraska. Susan was born September 17,1955, in Alma, to Stanley and Sharon (Streck) Dunn. She was the first born of four children. Susan, known to her family and friends as Sue, was a life-long resident of Alma until she became ill with heart issues and eventually cancer. Recently, she moved to Cambridge Court Assisted Living. Sue graduated from Alma High School in 1973, then attended Hastings Community College.
On April 30, 1977, Susan was united in marriage to Anders (Andy) Ashley of Ragan, Nebraska, at the First Christian Church in Alma. They celebrated 42 loving years together until Andy passed away after spending a year in the hospital after an accident. Sue never left Andy's side while he was in the hospital. Her devotion was unparalleled. Her little dog companion, Matlock, gave Sue comfort and happiness after she lost her soulmate.
Susan was a homemaker and later went to work at the Pump & Pantry in Alma. She also worked at the 4th Ave Coffee Shop in Holdrege. Sue volunteered at Caring Cupboard, was a TeamMates Mentor at Alma Schools and assisted in various programs at her church, Alma United Methodist. She loved visiting with people and entertained everyone with her costumes. Her creativity and love of costumes brought smiles to so many! One would never know what she would be on holidays or any day that she felt like dressing up! Andy willingly would go along with her costumes and dress up alongside her.
She was an active member of Alma United Methodist Church and built close relationships with several members.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Andy; her parents, Stanley and Sharon Dunn; brother-in-law, John Ashley; and four sisters-in-law: Merle Motley and her husband, Clyde; Phyllis Konzack and her husband, Owen; Estella Ashley, and Ardith Ashley.
She leaves behind: a son, Levi (LaTasha) Ashley; and granddaughter, Nora, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; a daughter, Jennifer Ashley of Vermillion, South Dakota; Sue's siblings and spouses became her constant companions during her last few years, especially after Andy's accident. She leaves them to celebrate her life as well; brothers: Steven (Mary) Dunn of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Sam (Cheryl) Dunn of Hastings, Nebraska; and a sister, Shelly (Rachel) Dunn of Kearney; two sisters-in-law: Janet Ashley of Holdrege; and LaDonna Schluterbusch and her husband, Larry of Sidney, Nebraska; along with special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, relatives and friends. She was DUNN STRONG.
