Celebration of Life Services for Susan M. Hadan will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk, Nebraska with Pastor Daren Popple, officiating.  Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in rural Maxwell, Nebraska.

Susan Marie Hadan, 62 years of age, of Funk, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Bethany Home in Minden, Nebraska, following a brief battle with cancer.  Susan was born April 17, 1956 in David City, Nebraska, the eldest of four children born to William and Evelyn (Kucera) Birkel. She received her education from Columbus Public Schools, graduating from Columbus High School with the class of 1974.

On May 14, 1983, she was united in marriage to Robbie Lee Hadan at Columbus and the couple were blessed with three daughters: Kari, Shelby and Gina. While living in Columbus, Susan worked several different manufacturing jobs before moving to Holdrege in 1984. The family lived in Holdrege for a short period of time before moving to Funk in 1985, where she resided until her passing.  Susan worked 27 years at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege, doing many jobs on the manufacturing floor, until retiring in November of 2013.

Family was the most important thing to Susan. She cherished all the times spent with her family, and especially loved cooking for them during the holidays. She loved her dogs, going to auctions, and collecting different types of antique pottery and glassware. Susan also enjoyed bird watching, fishing, camping, and loved tending to her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Evelyn Birkel, and her mother-in-law, MaryAnn Hadan.

Susan leaves to celebrate her life; her husband of 35 years, Rob Hadan of Funk; three daughters: Kari Murray and her husband, Mark, and Shelby Christensen and her husband, Tim, all of Holdrege; and Gina Ottem and her husband, Pete of Douglas, Wyoming; seven grandchildren: Lezlee Sasse of Holdrege; LCpl Quentin Hadan, USMC of Quantico, Virginia; Wyatt Schutz of Atlanta, Nebraska; Weston and Owen Ottem of Douglas; and Aurora and Eilonwy Christensen of Holdrege; two sisters: Sheryl Brown and her husband, Karl of Blair, Nebraska; and Sandy Stachura and her husband, Rick of Scotia, Nebraska; one brother, Steven Birkel and his wife, Debbi of Portland, Oregon; father-in-law, Robert Hadan of Pharr, Texas; sister-in-law, Polly Hadan of Minden; along with four nieces, five nephews, three great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial Book Signing will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Susan's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
