Graveside Services for Sylvia G. Polhemus will be conducted from the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Wayne Carlson, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Sylvia G. Polhemus, 74 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Funk, Nebraska) passed away on Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Sylvia was born July 28, 1932 at Birmingham, Alabama, one of two children of Glen and Travis "Mae" (Pelham) Durbin. She received her primary education at Birmingham, graduating from Phillips High School. She then pursued higher education at Woodrow Wilson School of Grammar, Birmingham College, the University of Alabama and later the Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Following her education, Sylvia served her country in the United States Air Force from August 10, 1953 – December 16, 1954. She was united in marriage to John "Jack" Isom and to this union one son, John Isom Jr. was born. The family made their home in Alabama and Houston, Texas.
On November 23, 1970 she was united in marriage to James A. Polhemus and the couple made their home in Funk, Nebraska. On December 3, 2005 she was preceded in death by her husband, James.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, John Isom Jr. of Houston, Texas; two grandsons; one stepdaughter, Jane Womack and her special friend, Jerry McFarlin of Pasadena, Texas; two stepsons: Mark Polhemus and his wife, Rita of Sugerland, Texas and Matthias Polhemus and his wife, Cindy of West Columbia, Texas; seven step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Eugene Polhemus and his wife, Soffia of Kearney, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Beth Pierson and her husband, Tom of Corpus Christi, Texas and Evelyn Polhemus of Holdrege; other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, James she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; stepson, James and brother-in-law, Lynn Polhemus.
Mrs. Polhemus will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
A memorial has been established in her memory to Christian Homes Chapel Fund.
