A Funeral Service for Tammy J. Akins will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Freedom Baptist Church in Stamford, Nebraska with Pastor Jason Dowell officiating. Tammy has requested everyone wear bright colors for her service. Following the funeral service, cremation will take place.
Tammy Jean Akins, 54 years of age, of Stamford, passed away, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Harlan County Health System in Alma, Nebraska. Tammy was born in Greeley, Colorado on July 29, 1967, the youngest of three children, born to Everett and Vivian (Bradley) Schuler. She received her education from Hudson Public Schools and received her GED in Inavale, Nebraska.
Following her education, Tammy worked as a farmhand and a waitress in various areas including Colorado, Mississippi, and Texas.
On October 15, 2003, Tammy was united in marriage to Roger Akins in Russellville, Arkansas and Roger accepted Tammy's two daughters, Alizabeth Ann and Katelynn Bernice as his own. The couple made their home in Arkansas. In the summer of 2008, the family moved home to Nebraska.
Tammy enjoyed camping, fishing, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family and getting together with her extended family. She was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church in Stamford.
Tammy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; one daughter, Candace Schuler; and one nephew, Joshua Schuler.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Roger of Stamford; children: Alizabeth Young of Stamford; and Katelynn Beck and her husband, Nathan of Texas; two grandchildren: Noah Aaron Tapp and Ericka Noteboom; sister, June Calkins; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Tammy's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
