Funeral Services for Terry Lee Mayo will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Connie Karr, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Terry Lee Mayo, 59 years of age, of Doon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was born May 4, 1949 at Oxford, Nebraska, the eldest of eight children of Vernon Lee "Red" and Norma Jean (Keslar) Mayo. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools. Following his education, Terry was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.
After his Honorable Discharge he was united in marriage to Myra Anderson and to this union one son, Travis Lee was born. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Terry was employed by William Anderson Company. In addition, Terry also brought into this world two other children: Donald Patrick and Elizabeth Jean in Colorado. Throughout the years, Terry was involved in Construction, Mechanic work and also Maintenance. He resided in Colorado, South Dakota and Iowa.
When Terry's health began to fail he spent an enormous amount of time on the computer researching his family heritage and found deep in his family history his Native Indian background. He was a member of an Indian Tribe in South Dakota and was given his tribal name, Son of Eagles. He loved to be on the open road riding his Harley Davidson and was an active member of the Patriot Guard.
He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Norma Mayo of Holdrege; two sons: Travis Mayo and his wife, Alisha of North Platte, Nebraska, Donald Mayo and his wife, Becky of Doon, Iowa; one daughter, Elizabeth Saner and her husband, Andy of Wakonda, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Treyton, Ashlyn, Rylie, Colt, and Beau; three brothers: Gary Mayo and his wife, Cindy of Funk, Nebraska, Larry Mayo and his fiancé, Donna of Holdrege and Ron Mayo and his special friend, Linda of Holdrege; four sisters: Susan Remmenga of Bertrand, Nebraska, Linda Swearingen and her husband, Clyde of Grand Island, Nebraska, Nancy Elting and her husband, Doug of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pam Joy of Holdrege; Terry's special friend, Jeane Bruns of Doon, Iowa; uncle and aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Red in 1986 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Terry will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
