A funeral service for Thelma I. Wessel will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Mr. Daryl Wyatt officiating.
Interment will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Thelma Irene Wessel, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on December 25, 2023, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Thelma was born in Bloomington, Nebraska on August 30, 1934, the youngest of two children, born to Clarence and Emily (Lemmert) Wessel. She received her education from Bloomington Public School and graduated from Bloomington High School, with the class of 1953.
Thelma worked at Brad's Café in Franklin, Nebraska before becoming the Linotype operator for the Franklin County Sentinel newspaper. In 1960 Thelma started working at Graphic Arts in Holdrege and later the Holdrege Daily Citizen and Artistic Woven Labels. In 1985 she started working in the bakery at Nash Finch, which later became Sun Mart, and retired in 2006.
Thelma enjoyed gardening and yardwork until she was no longer able. She was a faithful member of the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as a full-time minister for many years.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Violet Wessel.
She leaves to celebrate her life, her close friend Pam Merrill of Owattonna, Minnesota; and a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Thelma's honor and kindly suggested to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 743 Burlington St, Holdrege, NE 68949.
