Funeral Services for Tommy G. Ellis will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Wes Holen officiating. Military honors at graveside will be conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford. Masonic Rites will also be presented by the Jachin Lodge #146 of Holdrege, Nebraska.
Tommy Gene Ellis, 70 years of age, of Shreveport, Louisiana, formerly of Oxford passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at his home in Shreveport. He was born on February 17, 1938, in Oxford, the second of two children of Charley "Dutch" H. and Estelean M. (Coe) Ellis. He received his education from Oxford High School where he graduated with the class of 1956. In 1957 Tommy enlisted in the United States Air Force where he received higher education from the Community College of the Air Force program. Tommy faithfully served his country for over 30 years before retiring in 1987 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
On December 25, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lila Mae Blauvelt at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. Throughout Tommy's military career, the couple made their home in many places including: Spokane; Austin, Texas; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Bangor, Maine; Bossier City, Louisiana; Beale A.F.B., California; Castle A.F.B, California; and finally to Shreveport.
Tommy was a member of the Shrine in Austin, Texas, where he was the youngest registered member when he joined. He was also a member of the Barksdale V.F.W. Post #592. Tommy also enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Lila Mae of Shreveport; brother, Charlie Ellis of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford with the family greeting friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Tommy G. Ellis Memorial Fund.
