Funeral Services for Twyla A. Dahlgren will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jean Clayton, officiating. Interment will be in the Industry Cemetery at Atlanta, Nebraska.
Twyla Ann Dahlgren, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Twyla was born July 12, 1925 on the family farm north of Arapahoe in Gosper County, Nebraska, the second of eleven children of Charles William and Etta Geneva (Warner) Dodson. She received her education at the Snowball School near Arapahoe. Following her education she was employed by the Zephyr Café in Holdrege.
Twyla was united in marriage to Orville Jonah Dahlgren on June 23, 1943 at Hastings, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Carol, Paul and Mardelle. The family made their home at Atlanta, Nebraska, where Twyla focused on raising their children. Their house was the gathering place for family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, and loved to cook and bake. The coffee pot was always on, and Twyla was ready for anyone who would drop by.
Later in years, she was employed by Becton-Dickinson from 1969 until her retirement in 1985. In May of 1975 she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville. Twyla and all of the Dodson side of the family were avid Colorado Rockies fans and enjoyed many trips to Colorado.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters: Carol Ellis and her husband, Delbert of Minden, Nebraska and Mardelle Dahlstedt of Holdrege; one son, Paul Dahlgren and his wife, RaDonna of Holdrege; eight grandchildren: Major Brian Ellis, Tracy Lynn Gibbs and her husband, Cary, Tony Ellis and his wife, Tammy, RaBecca (Hoffman) Dahlgren, Schreese, Chandler, Desiree and Cody Dahlgren; nine great-grandchildren: Melissa, Caelee, Amanda, Brandon, Logan, Samantha, Brianna, Cheyanne and Tanner; three brothers: Ralph Dodson and his wife, Betty of Funk, Nebraska, Jack Dodson and his wife, Mary Ann of Emmett, Idaho and Dick Dodson and his wife, Barb of Elwood, Nebraska; one sister, Betty Steinkruger and her husband, Leland of Franklin, Nebraska; four sisters-in-law: Dolores Dodson of Nathrop, Colorado, Gerry Dodson of Loomis, Elvera Dahlgren of Holdrege and Irene Dahlgren of Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Raymond Dodson and his two wives', Ruth and Evelyn, Duane "Zeke" Dodson and his wife, Evelyn, Bill Dodson, Glen Dodson and Allan Dodson; one sister, Gladys Faye Dodson at the age of two; one sister-in-law, Elsie Kruger and her husband, Hank; five brothers-in-law: Bill Dahlgren and his wife, Emma, Vernon Dahlgren and his wife, Mary, Leslie Dahlgren, George Dahlgren and his wife, Margaret and Clinton Dahlgren.
Twyla will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Memorial Homes or the Alzheimer's Association.
