Funeral Services for Tyler D. Ehlers will be conducted from the Hope Lutheran Church of rural Smithfield, Nebraska on Friday, July 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Cathi Braasch, officiating. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery at Bertrand, Nebraska.

Tyler Dee Ehlers, 19 years of age, of rural Smithfield, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2007 following a courageous battle with cancer at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Tyler was born July 9, 1988 at McCook, Nebraska, the second of three sons of David Lester and Della DaNeice (Stark) Ehlers. Tyler was baptized on August 21, 1988 at the United Methodist Church in Imperial, Nebraska and later confirmed on May 4, 2003 at the Hope Lutheran Church. He received his education at Bertrand, graduating on May 12, 2007 from Bertrand High School. During his high school career, Tyler lettered in football and basketball, involved in the one-act plays and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, where he was active with the youth group. Tyler loved spending summers with his aunt and uncle, Dan and Lisa in Plainview, Nebraska, showing cattle at the Pierce County Fair. He always looked forward to spending time with his friends and family.

He leaves to mourn his passing his parents: David and Della Ehlers of rural Smithfield; two brothers: Seth and Dirk Ehlers of rural Smithfield; two grandmothers: Beverly Stark of Lexington, Nebraska and Colleen Ehlers of Moorefield, Nebraska; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers: Dee Stark and Lester Ehlers and uncle, Bob Glinsmann.

Tyler will lie in state at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand, Nebraska on Thursday, July 26, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in his memory and will be designated at a later date.
