Funeral Services for Val D. Reed will be held on Wednesday, January 18 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery south of Wilcox.

Val (Valentine) Dee Reed, 68 years of age, of rural Wilcox, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Kearney County Health Systems in Minden, Nebraska.  Val was born November 27, 1948 at Stockton, Kansas, the fourth of five children born to Irwin D. and Virginia (Rodgers) Reed, and was raised by his grandparents, Willis D. and Winnie May (Anderson) Reed.  He attended Eastern Heights Public School in Agra, Kansas and graduated with the class of 1967.  He then furthered his education by attending various schools, to learn to be a mechanic.

Following his college education, he attended Bethany Nazreen Bible School.  He then began his lifelong passion of mechanic work.

On May 29, 1969 Val was united in marriage to Marie (Dyer) Johnson and to this union two children were born:  a daughter, Shawna; and a son, Brad; Val was then united in marriage to Wanda Spaulding on November 25, 1995.  With this marriage, he welcomed Wanda's five children:  Terri Ann, Lisa, Alan Dean, Toby, and Amburr.

Val enjoyed camping and racing his racecars and was very proud of his son Brad's ongoing sobriety of two years.  His hobbies include hunting, drag racing and being on Facebook.  He was a member of IATN, International Automotive Technician Network

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Ramona Harter, and a brother Dana Reed; sister-in-law, Elaine Jackson, daughters-in-law, Kristi Loschen and Karen Spaulding; and Aunt, Edna Lee (Reed) Taylor.

Val leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Wanda Reed of rural Wilcox; daughter, Shawna DeMars and her husband, Jaimy Nixon of Manley, Nebraska; son Brad J. Reed of Kearney, Nebraska; step-children:  Terri Ann Bach and her husband Jason of Alma, Nebraska, Lisa Stoddard and her husband Jason of Axtell, Nebraska, Alan Dean Loschen of Wilcox, Nebraska, Toby Spaulding of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Amburr DeCent and her fiancé,  Rodney Dethlefs of Eddyville, Nebraska; four sisters:  Clarita May Reinig of Texas, Mala Rene Martinez and Zebett Ghan both of Colorado and Ivy Lynn of Hays, Kansas; two brothers:  Kent Ramsey of Colorado and  Rodger Reed of Riverton, Nebraska; uncle, Clyde Duane Reed of Los Angeles, California; five sisters-in-law:  Wanetta Webber and her husband, Gerald of Colby, Kansas, Bernice Iman and her husband Donald of Franklin, Nebraska, Linda Miner of Kearney, Nebraska, and Dawn Heaker and her husband Hal of Alma, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law:  Jimmy Jackson of Franklin, Nebraska, and Jerry Jackson and his wife Terrie of Franklin, Nebraska; father-in-law and mother-in-law, S. Wayne and Vera Jackson of Athol, Kansas; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox.

A memorial has been established in Val's honor and will be designated at later date.
