Funeral Services for Vennette W. McCain will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Vennette Wanda McCain, 91years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Funk, Nebraska), passed away on Monday, April 19, 2017 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Vennette was born December 26, 1925, in rural Phillips County, Kansas, the eldest of six children born to Arthur Orville and Mary Elenor (Brown) Churchill. She received her primary education at a country school in Phillips County, Kansas, and Bloomington, Nebraska, where she graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1943. Vennette then completed a nursing program in Chicago, Illinois.

On April 19, 1951, Vennette was united in marriage to Charles R. McCain. Charles passed away in 1998. In 2011, Vennette began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Vennette was employed at the Holdrege Hospital, and later at Phelps Memorial Health Center until her retirement in 1991.

She enjoyed many interests including: music, baking, quilting, gardening, fishing, traveling, and especially spending time with her family.

Vennette was a 61 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ione Greenwood; brother, Loren Churchill; nieces: Virginia Fayenne Howell, and Billie Joe Churchill; brothers-in-law: Gary Walton, Robert Howell, Lyle Greenwood, and Wayne Volk.

Vennette leaves to celebrate her life; her sons: Steve McCain and his wife, Agatha of Lake Mary, Florida, Dallas McCain and his wife, Jane of Omaha, Nebraska and Gene McCain of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Stephanie McCain of Lake Mary, Deborah Compton and her husband, Ron of Marco Island, Florida, Chad McCain and his wife, Melissa of Papillion, Nebraska, Michelle McCain-Fisher and her husband, Mark of Sunnyvale, California, Michael McCain and fiancé, Jolie of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kirk Heim and his wife, Katie of Everett, Washington, Kevin Heim and his wife, Kara of Lincoln and Angie Heim and her fiancé, John of Omaha, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren:  Jake and Joey McCain of Papillion, Amira Compton of Marco Island, Robin Vennette Fisher (expected to be born soon) of Sunnyvale, California, Conor Callaghan of Everett, Washington, Freyja Heim of Everett, and Sadie and Lela Heim both of Lincoln; three sisters: Fayenne Clark of Lincoln, Kansas, Jonquil Volk of Bloomington, and Sharon Greenwood of Superior, Nebraska.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Vennette's honor and will be designated at a later date.
