Funeral Services for Viola M. Jones will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Gary Winget, officiating. Interment will be in the Bainbridge Cemetery in Harlan County, Nebraska.
Viola May Jones, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Viola was born February 11, 1918, in Thomas County, near Thedford, Nebraska, the third of nine children of Roy H. and Catherine Jane (Adkins) Blauvelt. She received her education at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1936.
On February 11, 1936 she was united in marriage to Elmer Floyd Jones at Holdrege and to this union six children were born: Catharyne, Larry, Corliss, Kim, Laura and Nathan. The family made their home north of Loomis, where Elmer and Viola engaged in farming. Viola enjoyed life on the farm and focused on raising their children. In 1959 they moved into Holdrege, where Viola worked as the head cook at the Frontier Café and later was employed by Becton-Dickinson from 1970 until her retirement in 1983. In 1998 she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer.
Viola was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holdrege, enjoyed embroidery, quilting, cooking and loved spending time with her family. She was also an avid baseball fan.
She leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters: Catharyne Halbur of Holdrege, Corliss Stewart and her husband, Norman of Kearney, Nebraska, Laura St. Clair and her husband, Lonnie of Holdrege; three sons: Larry Jones of Funk, Nebraska, Kim Jones of Holdrege and Nathan Jones and his wife, Debbie of Sutton, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Blauvelt and his wife, Ally of San Diego, California; four sisters: Rose Olson of Holdrege, Calvia Jackson of Holdrege, Donna Hanson and her husband, Virgil of Boulder, Colorado, Dena Menze and her husband, Larry of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by; her parents; one daughter-in-law, Lynn Jones; one great-great granddaughter, Sarah Simmons; one brother, Irvin Blauvelt and his wife, Vera; two sisters: Pearl Exceen and her husband, Sam and Nelia VonLoh and her husband, Gaylord; brothers-in-law, Morris Olson and Jack Jackson.
Mrs. Jones will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
