Violet V. Peterson

The funeral service for Violet V. Peterson will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Murray Jones and Pastor Dave Oldham officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Violet Virginia Peterson, 86 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Holdrege Memorial Homes surrounded by her family. Violet was born March 17, 1937, in Holdrege, the third of six children born to Atlee Hugo and Mildred Pearl Violet (Hemstrom) Wallander. She received her primary education from District #46, the Westmark School, and then graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1955.

She was employed at Brewster Hospital and Clinic as a nurse from 1955-1961.

On April 19, 1959, Violet was united in marriage to Roger Peterson and to this union, they were blessed with two children: Kenton and Darla. Violet focused her efforts on caring for the children and worked alongside Roger, farming and raising cattle on their family farm, Sunny View Angus Farms. In 1993 Violet began working as a CNA at Holdrege Memorial Homes and continued there until 1999. In 2001 they moved into Holdrege.

Violet loved gardening with Kenton and always had a meticulous yard and flower garden. She was a devoted walker and enjoyed refinishing furniture. Violet loved playing dominos and was an avid baker making homemade rye bread and ostakaka. You can move the girl off the farm but you can't take the farm out of the girl, until the end Violet still enjoyed going for rides to check the crops.

When times were tough, her faith never wavered. Violet was a devoted member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, where she served as a youth sponsor, Sunday School teacher, and was very active with the FCWM, chairman of the ladies' serving committee, and White Cross. She was also on the Prairie Home Cemetery Board and the Bethphage Advisory Board.

Violet had a selfless, servant's heart and was a devoted caretaker to Roger and Kenton for many years. But most of all, her family was number one in her life. She treasured the time spent with her daughter's family and all of her extended relatives.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 2015; son, Kenton in 2019; two brothers: Delbert Wallander and his wife, Virginia; and Bruce Wallander; one brother-in-law, Rodger Florom; and two sisters-in-law: Kathryn Barker and her husband, Harlan; and Carolyn Fitch.

Violet leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter, Darla Aegerter and her husband, Jeff of Seward, Nebraska; her grandson, Kane Aegerter and his special friend, Audrey Acord; one brother, Robert Wallander and his wife, Mary of rural Loomis; two sisters: Sharon Florom of Conroe, Texas; and Carmen Stradal and her husband, Franklin of Holdrege; sister-in-law: Darlene Wallander of Bertrand; brother-in-law, Jerry Fitch of Commerce City, Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Violet's honor and kindly suggested to her family for later designation.
