Violet M Wessel

Funeral Services for Violet M. Wessel will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Mr. Loren Lindemann officiating.  Interment will be held following to the services in Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.

Violet May Wessel, 82 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.  Violet was born on May 29, 1933 at Bloomington, Nebraska, the eldest of two daughters born to Clarence A. and Emily F. (Lemmert) Wessel. She attended school in Bloomington graduating as the Valedictorian of the class of 1952.

Violet was a dedicated and hard worker. She began as the head waitress at Brad's Café in Franklin, Nebraska in 1953, then as a payroll clerk at Armstrong Construction Co. in Franklin and then as a secretary for Fred Kolb Auctioneer in Franklin. After moving to Holdrege in the late 1950s, Violet first was employed as a designer at Holdrege Floral before working as a radio dispatcher and police matron for the Holdrege Police Department from October 1958 until 1970. Later, she was employed at Artistic Woven Labels for 12 years. From 1984 through 1992, and then from 1997 through 1999, she was employed at James Hays Insurance Agency. From 1994 through 1996 she was a hostess at Taste of Country in Holdrege. In 1996, she began her employment as a secretary at Precision Hearing in Holdrege. In 1993 until the present, she was a member of the Great Plains Welcoming Service in Holdrege where she enjoyed meeting many new people to the community.

Violet enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a long time and an active member of the Holdrege Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses, serving as a full time minister for nine years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her sister, Thelma Wessel of Holdrege; close friend, Pam Merrill of Owattonna, Minnesota; and a host of cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Violet's honor and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Kingdom Hall – Jehovah's Witnesses.
