Funeral Services for Virginia F. Eman will be conducted from the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Jenkins, officiating. Following the traditional funeral, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will be in the Oxford Cemetery at a later date.
Virginia Faye "Ginny" Eman, 83 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Virginia was born December 4, 1931 at Oxford, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Morse) Flynn. She received her education at Oxford, graduating from Oxford High School with the class of 1949. Following her education, Virginia pursued her passion of baking and cooking. She was employed at the Blincow Café in Oxford, cooked at the Oxford Public School for many years until owning and operating her own café known as Virginia's Café. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, pies, jelly and home cooked meals.
On August 5, 1951 she was united in marriage to Carl F. Eman and to this union four children were born: Geraldine, Carla, Glenn and Virgil. The family made their home in Oxford. Through the years, Virginia and Carl enjoyed operating the Oxford Swimming Pool and the Dairy Queen.
She was an avid bowler, loved to play cards, enjoyed traveling, tending to her yard and flowers; especially her African Violets. Virginia also enjoyed creating all kinds of crafts, attending craft shows, sewing, but always told the family, "I could never learn to Tat."
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was involved in Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts when the children were young, member of the Eastern Star, and a devoted member of the American Legion Post #219 Auxiliary, where she held many offices. A fond memory was always the enjoyment of attending Carl's Army reunions for many years throughout the United States. She was extremely proud to be an American and most of all she loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On October 4, 2006 she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her four children: Geraldine Amen and her husband, Terry of Oxford, Carla Bienhoff and her husband, David of Ottawa, Kansas, Glenn Eman and his wife, Rose of Pensacola, Florida and Virgil Eman and his wife, Mary of Oxford;
nine grandchildren: Mike Amen and his wife, Shelly, Scott Amen and his wife, Carmen, Teresa Barnett and her husband, Matt, Michelle Gorden and her husband, James, Kenneth Bienhoff, Timothy Eman, Anthony Eman and his wife, Cherri, Kelsie Eman and Alex Eman; seven great-grandchildren: Evan, Lexy, Karly, Cole, Jonah, William, and Gavin; one sister, Louise Friedman of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband and parents; she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence "Earl" Flynn.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established in Virginia's honor and kindly suggested to the First Baptist Church or the Oxford Rescue Unit.
