Virginia Lea "Ginger" McGuire, 71 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Ginger was born August 16, 1944 in rural Harlan County, Nebraska south of Republican City, on her grandparent's farm, the second daughter born to George and Bessie (Whitney) Gehrig. Ginger resided at her parent's farm, northeast of Oxford, until the age of 17. She attended grade school at Mascot and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1962. She then continued her education in Denver, Colorado at Parks Business School.
After many short-term employments, she was employed for Day, Webb and Taylor Insurance Agency for 17 years and an additional nine years for Nesavick Insurance. In 1990, she moved to Villa Ridge, Missouri where she worked for State Farm Insurance. In 1993, she and her husband, Mac, moved home to Oxford where she worked for Walker Post Manor and Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege. She retired from Phelps Memorial Hospital on February 1, 2005.
On October 2, 1965, Ginger and Stephen Bobrick were married in Denver. They were married for 18 years. Stephen passed away in 1990.
In October 1981, Ginger and Bill Cronister formed a family along with Bill's three children: Billy, Amy and Jana. They were separated in June 1988.
While visiting home in August 1989, she met C.L. (Mac) McGuire. Soon a long distance romance began with Mac in St. Louis and Ginger in Denver. She moved in August 1990 to Missouri to be with him. They were married on May 26, 1991, in the backyard of their brother and sister, Gene and Karen (Gehrig) McGuire, with both sides of their families attending.
Ginger became a resident of Holdrege Memorial Homes in 2009.
Some of her favorite things to do were playing cards and Dominos. She enjoyed attending auctions and taking country drives, especially on minimum maintenance roads. She enjoyed her pets, especially her cats. Ginger was a little ornery, and had a quick wit and great sense of humor. She was greatly loved by her family and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ginger leaves to mourn her passing; her husband, Mac of Holdrege; his daughter, Barbara (McGuire) Eaton and her husband, Chip of Kirkwood, Missouri; her four sisters: Marjorie Wilson and her husband, Nason of Lincoln, Nebraska, Karen McGuire and her husband, Gene of Wilcox, Nebraska, Sharon Kruback and her husband, Ron of Holdrege, Nancy Haney and her husband, Stan of Grand Island, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Eva Hauxwell of Ralston, Nebraska, Joyce Streeter and her husband, Gene of Brady, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Jerry McGuire and his wife, Gin of Greenville, Iowa; her aunt, Pat Gehrig of Oxford; and her uncle, Sam Huston of Torrance, California; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
