Funeral Services for Vivian E. Bergstrom will be conducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home of Holdrege, Nebraska with the Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Vivian Eleanor Bergstrom, 94 years of age, of Holdrege passed away on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. She was born September 14, 1914 on a farm in Phelps County, Nebraska the youngest of seven children born to Edward and Edith (Johnson) Johnston. She attended rural Phelps county schools and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1932.
Vivian was united in marriage on September 29, 1933 at Phillipsburg, Kansas to Sidney David Bergstrom and to this union one son, Charles, was born. Sidney passed away on December 29, 1968. Vivian was a dedicated worker. She worked cleaning houses and hotels and also worked in the restaurant business and was employed in local Holdrege restaurants including the Speakeasy for a number of years. In her later years she enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, reading and crafts.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Charles "Chuck" Bergstrom and his special friend, Suzanne Gendron of Yuma, Arizona; five grandchildren: Jeff Bergstrom and wife Barbara of Pueblo, Colorado, Jon Bergstrom and wife Lori of Inola, Oklahoma, Jim Bergstrom and wife Teri of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jerry Bergstrom of Pueblo, Colorado, and Julie Phillips and husband Richard of Pueblo, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren as well as several other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Sidney, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Vernon Johnston, Forest Johnston, Fred Johnston and Johnie Johnston; two sisters: Inez Olson and Gertrude Hancock.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and kindly suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
