Funeral Services for Vivian M. Deaver will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Buck Linton-Hendrick and Reverend Jean Clayton, officiating. Interment will be in the Deaver Cemetery in Furnas County, Nebraska.
Vivian May Deaver, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Christian Homes in Holdrege. Vivian was born August 25, 1914 on the family farm southeast of Stamford in Harlan County, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles Arthur and Esta Mae (Beadleston) Grever. Vivian received her primary education in rural Harlan County and graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1932. She then pursued higher education to receive her normal training for teaching. Vivian taught in rural schools near Stamford for two years.
On May 24, 1935 she was united in marriage to Bernard Deaver and to this union three children were born: Barbara, Allen and Marlene. They made their home on Bernard's grandfather's homestead, where they engaged in farming at an early age. In 1950, they moved to a farm northwest of Oxford, where they resided until 1968 when they moved south of Holdrege. Vivian was employed at Swanson's in Oxford from 1954 – 1957 and later worked as a clerk for Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company from 1968 until her retirement in 1978. The couple celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in May of 1995. On June 21, 1995 she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard. Later in years, Vivian made her home at Christian Homes, where she resided until her passing. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her great sense of humor.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, spent many years as a volunteer at Holdrege Memorial Homes, enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flower garden and spending time with her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Barbara Cropp and her husband, Ed of Dix, Nebraska; son, Allen Deaver and his wife, Phyllis of Vancouver, Washington; 12 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Royal Weeder and his wife, Dee of Logan, Utah; brother-in-law, Leland A. Deaver of Nebraska City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marlene Weeder; grandson, Troy Leon Weeder; two brothers: Lloyd and Bill and one sister, Alice Beard.
Vivian will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory and suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
