Memorial Services for Vivian E. Metzger will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Melanie Adams and Mr. Wayne Carlson, officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska prior to the service.
Vivian Elaine Metzger, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, (formerly of Alma) passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Christian Homes in Holdrege. Vivian was born April 29, 1922 at Wilsonville, Nebraska, the third of four children of Rufus and Jane (McDonald) Wagner. She received her education from Wilsonville, graduating from Wilsonville High School. Following her education, Vivian worked for Folgers Coffee Company in Kansas City, Missouri. Vivian later returned to Nebraska and was united in marriage to Warren S. Metzger on November 20, 1946 at Beaver City, Nebraska. After a short time in Beaver City, the couple made their home in Alma and to this union two daughters were born: Catherine Jane and Gail Lorraine. Through the years, Vivian was employed as a sales clerk in Alma for Cayton's for twenty-three years and then seven years at T-Shirts and Stuff and finally at Chandler's until her retirement. Vivian and Warren celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2006.
Vivian loved playing golf with her friends and enjoyed playing in many tournaments throughout Nebraska and some were sand greens at that time. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Alma.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 61 years, Warren of Holdrege; two daughters: Cathy Schoneberg and her husband, Billy of Orleans, Nebraska and Gail Brand and her husband, David of Plantation, Florida; four grandchildren: Brad Schoneberg and his wife, Melissa of Mason City, Iowa, Teri Jo Heckenlively and her husband, Randy of Aurora, Nebraska, Jason Brand and Doug Brand both of Plantation, Florida; two great-grandchildren: Jadyn and Tanner Heckenlively; brother-in-law, Victor Reiss of Wilcox, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: John and Catherine Metzger; three sisters: Maxine Clements, Allerita Gay and Norma Himler; nephew, Ricky Gill in Vietnam; sister-in-law, Joan Lorraine Reiss and a great-nephew, Ryan Fecht.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Vivian's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
