Mass of Christian Burial for Volon Weber will be conducted from the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Thomas Lux, officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege.
Gladys "Volon" Weber, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Volon was born May 19, 1925 in Adams County, four miles south of Holstein, Nebraska, the daughter of Arlo Vern and Gladys Mae (Fernow) Blocker. She received her primary education from District #65 in Adams County and then graduated from Holstein High School with the class of 1942. Volon then pursued higher education at Hastings College to receive her teaching credentials. She then taught school for two years at Juniata, Nebraska. During WW II, Volon was employed by the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot for one year.
On September 30, 1946 she was united in marriage to Gerald Joseph Weber at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland, Nebraska. To this union three daughters were born: Nancy, Linda, and Carol. The family made their home in Hastings, Nebraska until moving to Holdrege in 1962. Volon's life was devoted to her family, raising their children and providing a loving home.
She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. During their retirement years, Volon and Jerry loved traveling together, especially spending winters in Arizona for over twenty years.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Jerry of Holdrege; three daughters: Nancy Fritsche and her husband, Blaine of Holdrege, Linda Mattson of Funk, Nebraska and Carol Marshall of Lincoln, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Angie Envick and her husband, Chris, Ryan Fritsche and his wife, Kendra all of Holdrege, Deanna Mazour and her husband, Chandler of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Erica Vannier and her husband, Darby, Luke Mattson, Jennica Seyler and her husband, Darick all of Lincoln, Nebraska; ten great-grandchildren: Austin and Amanda Envick, Madylin and Morgan Fritsche, Abbie, Natalie, Brett and Trevor Mazour, Bianca Vannier and Halley Seyler; brother-in-law, Gene Weber and his wife, JoAnne of Hastings; sister-in-law, Alice Fox and her husband, Grant of Turlock, California and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Mattie Mattson; and son-in-law, Michael Marshall.
Volon will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Monday, April 20, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Rosary and Wake Service will be held at the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
