Waldene Stockwell

A memorial graveside service for Waldene Stockwell will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska, with Mr. Neal McInturf officiating.

Waldene Stockwell, 96 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Waldene was born in Oxford on December 5, 1929, the only child born to Walter and Nola (Lewis) Wanner. She received her education from District 10 country school in Harlan County and later attended and graduated from Oxford High School, with the class of 1948.

On December 24, 1950 was united in marriage to Raymond Stockwell at Waldene's home, and to this union three children were born: Cynthia, Ronald, and Donald. The couple made their home in Oxford. Waldene worked at Fritzer Hospital in Oxford as a Lab Assistant for 10 years and then at Becton Dickinson in Holdrege, Nebraska, for 17 years.

She enjoyed walking, crocheting, playing bingo and cards, sewing, and playing with her dog. Waldene was always on the go; if there was somewhere to be, she was there.

She was a member of the Ladies VFW, the Oxford Jaycees, and the First Baptist Church in Oxford.

Waldene was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandson, Trevor Powell.

Waldene is survived by her children: Cynthia Powell and her husband, Dave of Holdrege; Ronald and his wife, Della of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Donald of North Platte, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Amanda (Imtiaz) Shaikh; Joshua (Karma) Stockwell; Patrick (Sandra) Stockwell; Colleen (Rubin) Gomez; Tyler Powell; Tony (Kristin) Powell; 18 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives, and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
