Celebration of Life Services for Wallace R. Broeker will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating. Interment will be held in the Carter Cemetery in Harlan County, Nebraska following the services.

Wallace Ray Broeker, 87 years of age, of rural Orleans, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska. Wallace was born January 2, 1928 on the family farm in the Carter Community in Harlan County, one of eleven children born to Carl O. and Clara (Hoppe) Broeker. He received his primary education from Carter School and then graduated from Mascot High School with the class of 1945.

Following his education, Wallace engaged in farming with his father on the family farm in the Carter Community and continued his passion of the labor of the land until his retirement.

On June 3, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ortha Mae Lans at the Stamford Christian Church in Stamford, Nebraska and to this union five children were born: Dana Kay, Donald Carl, Linda Louise, Duane Lee, and Wesley Eugene. Besides their life on the farm together the couple also enjoyed traveling and loved square dancing for many years. In his later years, Wallace enjoyed restoring antique tractors. On March 26, 2015, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ortha.

Wallace grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, after they were married they attended the Carter Community Church for several years and later transferred their membership to the First Baptist Church in Oxford. He also served on the Emerson Township Board for several years.

Besides his parents and wife, Ortha, he was preceded by one grandson, Craig Broeker; three brothers: Kenneth "Bud" Broeker, Robert Broeker, Oral Broeker and his wife, Pearl; four sisters: Louise Broeker in infancy, Marjorie (Brown) Dyas and her two husbands: Harold Brown Jr. and Dick Dyas, Berniece McQuiston and her husband, Roland, and Carla Freeburg and her husband, Laval; four brothers-in-law: Stanley Langenberg, Doug York, Milton "Tilly" Thulin, and Roland Lans and his wife, Irene.

Wallace leaves to celebrate his life; his two daughters: Dana Kay Tarr and her husband, Terry of Leverett, Massachusetts and Linda Stalliviere and her husband, Leonard of Tooele, Utah; three sons: Donald Broeker and his wife, Janet of Oxford, Duane Broeker and his wife, Bonnie of Seward, Nebraska and Wesley Broeker and his wife, Valeri of Orleans; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five sisters: Ardis Proctor and her husband, Carl of Oxford, Phyllis Thulin of Beaver City, Nebraska, Janice Maaske and her husband, Darrell of rural Oxford, LoRee Broeker of Holdrege, and Donna Dallman and her husband, Myron of Macon, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Adale Schroeder and her husband, Glen of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.

A memorial has been established in Wallace's honor and kindly suggested to the donor's choice.
