Funeral Services for Waunetta M. Weaver will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating. Interment will be held following the services at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege with Rev. George Ibach officiating.
Waunetta Maxine (Lichtenberger) Weaver, was born October 21, 1933 on the family farm near Callaway, Nebraska, to Edmund Kimball and Mamie Dae (Hickenbottom) Lichtenberger. She was the youngest of four daughters, Lucile, Darylene and Joan. Waunetta passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Holdrege Memorial Homes at the age of 92 years.
Waunetta attended Callaway Public Schools and after her high school graduation, she pursued higher education at Kearney State Teacher's College receiving a Bachelor's and Master's degree in education.
Her teaching career began in Holdrege in 1953 and on December 27 of that year, she was united in marriage to Keith M. Weaver. They were blessed with 64 years together until his passing on March 25, 2018. To this union two daughters were born, Susan and Melanie. After a few years at home, Waunetta continued her teaching career at Loomis Public Schools teaching first grade. She loved her students and enjoyed wonderful friendships with other teachers and staff. She retired in 1997.
Her teaching vocation and love of her first-grade students was second only to her unconditional love for her dear family and she was blessed with five grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, with her first great-great granddaughter soon to be born.
Waunetta was a faithful member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for over 60 years. Her many interests included camping, baking, and tending to the tomatoes in her vegetable garden! But her greatest joy was the blessing and gift of her family and friends. Her fried chicken, various pies, and banana bread will be greatly missed!
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Susan Ibach and her husband, George of Nashville, Tennessee; Melanie Lanham and her husband, Tom of Holdrege; five grandchildren: Rachel Christensen and her husband Ryan, Stephen Lanham and his wife Letticia; Michaela Ibach; Anna Ibach; Laura Ferrara and her husband Anthony; 16 great-grandchildren: Alex (Chloe) Wells, Ava Wells; Jack and Brooks Christensen; Bella, Kayla, Luke, Isabella and Jocelyn Lanham; Clara, Lydia, Isaac and Josiah Mullenax; Josephine, Anthony John, and Elizabeth Ferrara, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Waunetta was preceded in death by her husband Keith, parents, sisters and infant great-grandson.
The family would like to thank Holdrege Memorial Homes, Brookestone Home Health & Hospice, and Caring Friends at Home for the great care and compassion that they lovingly provided for Waunetta.
A memorial has been established in Waunetta's honor and will be designated at a later date.
