Celebration of Life Services for Wayne R. Hanson will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating.  Interment will be held at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honor Guard.

Wayne Royal Hanson, 85 years of age, of Omaha, Nebraska, (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Brookstone Village in Omaha.  He was born September 7, 1928 in Holdrege, the younger of two children born to G. Royal and LuVerne Beryl (Stone) Hanson.  Wayne received his education from Holdrege Public Schools and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1946.

Following his education, Wayne was inducted into the United States Army in May of 1952 and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on May 21, 1954.  Wayne returned to Holdrege and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until May of 1960.  On September 23, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage to Elizabeth Joan Nelson in Holdrege.  The couple were blessed with four children:  Dennis who passed in infancy, LuAnn, Linda and Jacqueline.

Wayne was employed as a central office technician for Northwestern Bell, later known as U.S. West Telephone Company until his retirement in 1990, after 45 years of employment.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Martin-Horn American Legion.  Wayne was also active with the Telephone Pioneers.  After retirement, Wayne and Betty especially enjoyed spending their summers in Estes Park, Colorado and loved the time spent with their grandchildren.

Besides his parents and son, Dennis in infancy; Wayne was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wayne Shugart.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife of almost 64 years, Betty Hanson of Omaha; his daughters: LuAnn Ochsner and her husband, Doug of Butte, Montana, Linda Norling and her husband, Mark of Bloomington, Minnesota and Jackie Roach and her husband, Mike of Omaha; two grandchildren:  Kipp Ochsner of Kansas City, Missouri and Jocelyn Ochsner of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, LaVon Shugart of Santa Barbara, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Wayne's honor and kindly suggested to the Nebraska Prairie Museum of the Phelps County Historical Society.
