Wayne Alfred Nelson, 82 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 23, 2020, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.  Wayne was born on September 25, 1938, the eldest of four children to Alfred and Grace (Johnson) Nelson.  He attended District #45 country school, and then attended and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1955.

On March 21, 1964, Wayne was united in marriage to Marilyn Alm at Oxlip Evangelical Free Church in Isanti, Minnesota.  To this union two children were born:  Jolene Kay and Paul Wayne.

Wayne was involved in farming his whole life.  He worked with his Dad before getting married and then continued farming with his wife by his side, and later his son and grandson.  He always enjoyed being able to help neighbors and friends when needed.  In 2008, Wayne and Marilyn moved into Holdrege and their son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Gayle and family moved onto the family farm.  Wayne continued to help with farm work as long as his health allowed.

Wayne served in the community on the Holdrege Co-op Equity board, Farm Bureau board, Little League Baseball board, Christian Homes board, Polk Bible Camp board, and EFCA Midwest District board.

Wayne accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized as a young man and attended Holcomb Evangelical Free Church his entire life, where he served in many capacities.  He loved to sing starting in the church choir in high school and sang many solos and special numbers.  Wayne and Marilyn were part of "The Scandinavians" and shared their Swedish heritage and God's love to many through their musical programs.  Music was a comfort to him.  Many people would hear him singing his favorite hymns wherever he was – tractor, hospital, nursing home, or front porch.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and following his children and now grandchildren's activities.  Even in later years when his eyesight and mobility were more difficult, he was always eager to attend his grandchildren's activities and was so proud of each of them.  He enjoyed visiting with people and in the summer was always glad to share his sweet corn with many people.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Nolan Joe Nelson; brother, George Nelson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar and Agnes Alm; and sister-in-law, Karen Alm.

Wayne leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Nelson of Holdrege; daughter, Jolene Nelson of Holdrege; son, Paul Nelson and wife, Gayle of rural Holdrege; four grandchildren:  Dylan Paul, Brooklyn Sue, Jaclyn Ann and Collin Li of rural Holdrege; sister, Lenore Weber and her husband, Jim of Guide Rock, Nebraska; brother, Richard Nelson and his wife Cindy, of Superior, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Susie Nelson of Summerfield, Florida; sister-in-law, Marge Alm of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Philip Alm of Cambridge, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
