Graveside Services for Wayne L. Roeder will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Orleans Cemetery at Orleans, Nebraska with Reverend Jean Clayton officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Harold Morin American Legion Post #184 of Orleans, in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.
Wayne L. Roeder, 88 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska. Wayne was born July 22, 1930 in Bogue, Kansas, the fourth of fifth children born to Jesse J. and Erie L. (Harmon) Roeder. During the birth of his sister, Avis, Wayne's mom, Erie died. A day later, Avis died. His father married Bessie V. Harrison. She brought one son, Lester to their new family. Jesse and Bessie had nine additional children.
Following his education, Wayne was inducted into the United States Army and served his county from 1951-1953; and was honorably discharged.
On August 19, 1961, he was united in marriage to Katherine Louise "Kathy" Kersting in Lexington, Nebraska. With open arms, Wayne welcomed Kathy's three children: Mike, Pat and Allen and together, they were blessed with four daughters: Diane, Deb, Judy and Vicky. Wayne was employed at Nebraska Public Power District in Orleans, until his retirement in 1987.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family; fishing, deer hunting, and camping. Wayne was an excellent handyman, helping his family finish projects at their houses, building toy boxes, cribs, stilts and aggravation boards for his children and later, grandchildren. On October 6, 2018, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy.
Besides his wife; he was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers: Lester; Keith; Byron and his wife, Florence; Warren and his wives, Maxine and Mary; Donald; Doyle; Darrell and Dennis Roeder and wife, Florine; three sisters: Avis as an infant; Audrey and her husband, Charles; and Doris and her husband, Leonard; four brothers-in-law: Merle Wood; Gerald Winchester; Bernard Kersting; and Buddy Kersting; and sister-in-law, LaDonna Kersting.
He leaves to celebrate his life: seven children: Mike Roeder and his wife, Chris of Oxford, Nebraska; Pat Graf and special friend, Larry Miller of Kearney; Allen Roeder and his wife, Rita of Lakewood, Colorado; Diane Christensen and her husband, Lee of Orleans; Deb Evans and her husband, Louis of Phillipsburg, Kansas; Judy Bose and her husband, Chuck of Orleans; and Vicky Graff and her husband, Richard of Orleans; twenty-one grandchildren: Cassie, April, Dusty and Brandon; Tory, John, and Travis; Pam, Amanda, Allen, Jr. and Breanna; Katy and Jesse; Josh, Adam, and Cody; Nicole, Andrew, and Clay; and Bailey and Hanna; many great-grandchildren; his siblings: Deloris Lafreniere; Delmar Roeder and his wife, Willa; Danny Roeder and his wife, Diana; and Dale Roeder; eight sisters-in-law, Joan Roeder; Shirley Wood; Loretta Luce and her husband, Wayne; Joyce Snell and her husband, Glen; Opal Wilson; Jean Kersting and special friend, Mike Maciejewski; Karen Stutheit and her husband, Mike; and Lois Huntsburger; three brothers-in-law: Fred Kersting and his wife, Ruby; Bill Kersting and his wife, Helen; and Roy Kersting; a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation with the family greeting friends will be held prior to the graveside service on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford, Nebraska.
A memorial has been established in Wayne's honor, and will be designated at a later date.
