A Memorial service for Weston F. Peterson will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Rev. Jan Gluth King, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege
Weston F. Peterson, 75 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at his home in Holdrege. Wes was born on November 28, 1947, in Bertrand, Nebraska, to Elmer "Pete" and Pauline (Bouwman) Peterson. He received his education from Holdrege Public Schools and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1966.
Following his education, Wes joined the Army Reserves and completed his basic training in Denver, Colorado. He continued to serve until May of 1973.
On July 10, 1973, Wes was united in marriage to Vicki Lee Gugle (Jordan) and lovingly accepted Vicki's daughter, Angela into this union. In addition, this union was blessed with three children: Heather, Wade, who was born at rest, and Brandy. The couple made their home in Holdrege. Together the family enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, canning, watching Nebraska football, and spending time together as a family.
Wes owned/co-owned several businesses throughout the years, including: Peterson & Son Land Leveling, Peterson Bait and Tackle, and Mefixees Wood Shop. Wes also worked many other jobs, including: at the Holdrege Daily Citizen, Consumer Preferred, Rite Way Milk, Inc., Paulsen's Inc., Schwan's, and at Dollar General.
Wes enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing, grilling, spending time with his family, watching Nebraska football, and drinking beer.
Wes was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3132, and past member of The American Legion and The Elks Lodge.
Wes will be remembered for the beautiful creations he made, the beautiful furniture he restored in his wood shop, for the family man he was, for his inappropriate jokes, and loving the shock factor, and definitely for his smile, that could light up a room!
Wes was preceded in death by his son, Wade Peterson; his wife, Vicki Peterson; his parents, Elmer "Pete" and Pauline Peterson; and two infant brothers: Ward and Bradford; along with numerous other family members.
Wes is survived by his three daughters: Heather Wallace and her significant other, Cody Hines of Holdrege; Angela Simpson and her husband, Kevin of Rhome, Texas; Brandy Peterson and her significant other, Mark Bennett of Holdrege; 10 grandchildren: Sarah, Khrystyne, Zach, Jordan, Austin, Amanda, Morgan, Bryce, Preston, and Ethan; nine great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law: Terry Gugle and his wife, Mary of Manhattan, Kansas; his special friend, Susan Cooper of Plainville, Kansas; along with extended family members.
There will be no viewing or visitation the evening prior to the memorial service. The family has honored his wish for cremation.
A memorial fund has been established in Wes's honor and will be designated at a later date.
