Wilford Barnes

Funeral Services for Wilford Barnes will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.

Wilford A. "Willie" Barnes, 85 years of age, of Holdrege, formerly of Alma, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege.  Wilford was born August 29, 1933 at Franklin, Nebraska, the sixth of eight children born to Semer L. and Lucy P. (Smith) Barnes.  He attended Franklin Public Schools.

On April 21, 1956, Wilford was united in marriage to Berdena M. Keeten in Naponee, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in Alma and were blessed with two children:  Randy and Karen.

Willie worked 42 years and 10 months for the Nebraska Department of Roads in Alma until his retirement.  He was a hard worker and enjoyed staying busy.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family; raising a large garden; and working on various projects.  His entire life was devoted to his family.

Wilford was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Berdena; three sisters:  Grace Barnes in infancy; Genevieve Kimberly; and Christina Klein; four brothers:  his twin brother in infancy, Wilbur Barnes; Ernest Barnes; Harmon Barnes; and Howard Barnes.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his children:  Randy Barnes and his wife, Brenda; and Karen Konzack and her husband, Joel; four grandchildren:  Michelle and Sara Barnes; and James and Katelyn Konzack, all of Holdrege; one sister-in-law:  Jule Barnes of Wilcox, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Wilford's honor and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
