A graveside service for William G. Dietz will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Orleans Cemetery in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Gale Dorn officiating.
William Glen "Bill" Dietz, 95 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on May 22, 2024, at his home. Bill was born on July 13, 1928, southwest of Orleans, in Harlan County, Nebraska the second of four children born to Wilhelm "Bill" Martin and Bernice (Richardson) Dietz. He received his primary education at District 5 School in Harlan County until the 8th grade and then began farming with his parents.
In 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Betty Chapman and to this union, eight children were born: Michael, Patricia, Dennis, Timothy, Jodi, Karen, Tony, and Gwendolyn. The couple made their home in Harlan County where Bill started his own business land leveling and custom harvesting with his sons. The couple loved to go dancing and Bill enjoyed reminiscing and talking about the past.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Dietz; his brother, Cecil Dietz; and one sister, Agatha Schultz.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Dietz of Orleans; seven children: Patricia DiPiazza and her husband, Paul of Silver Springs, Maryland; Dennis Dietz and his wife, Edna of Orleans; Timothy Dietz of Orleans; Jodi Horwart and her husband, Doug, of Orleans; Karen Lennemann of Holdrege, Nebraska; Tony Dietz of Orleans; and Gwendolyn Schoenthal of Kearney, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Aten of Crofton, Maryland; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Bill's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
