William L. Horwart

A Mass of Christian Burial for William "Bill" Lee Horwart will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Maurice Current officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Orleans.

William "Bill" Lee Horwart, 69 years of age, of Stamford passed away on November 4, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on October 3, 1954, in McCook, Nebraska. Bill was the sixth of seven children born to Merle "Pete" and Cecilia Horwart. Bill attended country school and later Stamford and Orleans Public School and graduated from Orleans with the class of 1972. After high school, Bill worked on his family farm where he worked there for all his life with his brother Doug Horwart.

On November 11, 1978, Bill was united in marriage to Connie Davenport and celebrated 45 wonderful years together. Bill and Connie lived on the family farm for most of their marriage and had 2 children, Joseph and Amanda.

Bill's life was full of love for his family, children, grandchildren, and farming. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren all about the farm. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in all their activities and sporting activities. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. Bill loved his daily chats of farming and sports with many people. Bill served on the Southern Valley School Board, one of the exciting moments that he loved to talk about was his involvement in planning the addition of the elementary school to the Southern Valley School District. He also was a member of the FSA board.

Bill was a lifelong member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and was involved with the Knights of Columbus.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Merle "Pete" and Cecilia Horwart; brothers: Stanley Horwart; and Norman Horwart; brothers-in-law, Jim Stewart; and Don Overleese; and his sister-in-law, Susan Collins.

Bill is survived by his wife, Connie "Davenport" Horwart; his son, Joseph Horwart and his wife, Natalie; his daughter, Amanda "Horwart" Lans and her husband, Jeremy; eight grandchildren: Prestin, Lorelie, Anzlee, and Liam Horwart and Hayden, Hunter, Hudson, and Houston Lans; four siblings: Lynda Stewart; Terill Quattrocchi and her husband, Louie Sr. Quattrocchi; Ron Horwart and his wife, Cheryl; Doug Horwart and his wife, Jodi; three sisters-in-law: Sharon Horwart; Barb Overleese; Ella Porter and her husband, Alan; three brothers-in-law: David Davenport; Jeff Davenport and his wife, Donita; and Dave Collins. As well as other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.

The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.

A memorial has been established in Bill's honor, and kindly suggested to the Stamford Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
