William Ray "Bill" Pinkerton, 82 years of age, of Loomis, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska.  Bill was born on May 19, 1934 on the family farm near Loomis, the youngest of four children born to Ray William and Grace (Hatting) Pinkerton. He lived his whole life on the family farm near Loomis. He attended Rubicon Rural School District #61 through sixth grade until it consolidated with the Loomis School. He then attended Loomis High School graduating with the class of 1952. While in school, Bill was involved in sports and other activities.

He had a quiet, loving easy going personality as a child and young man. He was a true joy to his family and friends and was very particular about his work and his appearance. His favorite pastime was attending sporting events and going to cattle sales. He attended most sporting events at Loomis High School and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He was loyal to his home town. Just a few weeks ago he said to his sister, "I love Loomis."

He attended the Methodist Church in Loomis until its closing in 2001. Since that time, he had attended the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis.

He worked with his father on the farm and raised cattle. After Bill's father passed away in 1964, the full responsibility of the farm and cattle raising became his responsibility. Bill loved animals and his cattle would gather around him in a very calm manner. He would walk his corn rows to see that the water was running all the way through and if not, he would make adjustments. He lived with his mother until her death in 2000 at the age of 103. Bill eventually rented the farmland, but kept on raising cattle until three years ago when he sold almost all of his herd.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by; his two brothers: Robert Joe Pinkerton and James Dale Pinkerton; and several aunts and uncles.

Bill is survived by; his sister, Barbara Nootz and her husband, Lyle of Ogallala, Nebraska; one niece, Janelle Chakounis and her husband, Joe of Denver, Colorado and their two children, Alexander and Sofia; many other relatives and friends; and his faithful dog, Tip.
